Questions & Answers
Helpful information about your portrait session, your finished artwork, and caring for your portrait.
“Carl’s picture is fantastic; I wish I had one of my last dog, Mittens, that would be a great memory.”
How do I book a session?
Use the Contact page form to tell me a little about your pet and what you have in mind. I’ll get back to you within 24 hours so we can begin planning your portrait experience.
Can I have the digital photo files as well as the print?
Yes. Your package includes your selected, professionally retouched portrait(s) and a gallery of additional images for personal use. The additional gallery images are not individually retouched.
I typically provide JPEG files because they’re easy to view, share, and store. If you specifically need RAW files, just ask.
Can I request a different style, size, or format?
Absolutely. Our standard options are a single framed portrait or a collection of three, with unframed options also available. If you have a particular idea in mind, please get in touch before booking so we can discuss what’s possible.
Can I be in the photo with my pet?
Yes. Please let me know in advance, and consider wearing solid colors for a coordinated, timeless portrait.
How should we prepare for the session?
Once your session is booked, I’ll send you helpful suggestions for preparing your pet. If you have questions or any special considerations, let me know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.
What is your retouching philosophy?
My goal is to create a realistic portrait that keeps your pet looking like themselves. I’ll take care of small distractions such as stray hairs, slobber, or marks on the backdrop when appropriate. If there’s something particular you’d like adjusted, just let me know.
What if my pet isn’t well trained?
Your pet doesn’t need to be perfectly trained. I work patiently and adapt to the animal in front of me. Please let me know in advance about any behavior concerns so we can plan an appropriate session.
What if my dog cannot be off leash?
That’s fine. Your dog’s safety comes first, and we can work with a leash when needed. Depending on the photograph, the leash may be removable during retouching.
Should we groom our dog for the session?
That depends on your pet and their breed. If a trim would help keep their eyes visible, consider scheduling it a few days before the session so they have time to settle into their new look. Above all, we want your pet to be comfortable.
Where is the photo session?
Sessions take place in a pet-friendly studio in Edmonds, Washington. I’ll provide the details when we arrange your session.
How should I care for my portrait?
For the best long-term preservation, display your portrait away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. We use archival paper and a fine-art printing process, but display conditions affect how well an artwork lasts.
